Organization

With most of what we need unpacked from the move I am coming up against organization.  I love my new kitchen.  LOVE LOVE LOVE it!  There is more cupboard space than I have EVER had.  But I find myself still not knowing what to do with the stuff I have.  I have 2 very deep corner cupboards and find it very hard to access things in the back of those cupboards, especially in my preggo condition.

I have 2 spice racks that need to be hung and then I will have one more cupboard open.  Yes, my spices take up almost an entire cupboard...lol.  I will then switch the plates, glasses and mugs to that cupboard.  It is closer to the table and isn't a corner cupboard, like the current cupboard they are in.  But then I have that corner cupboard to deal with.  What am I going to use it for?  What should I store in there?  What do YOU store in a corner cupboard?  How do you make it more useable?  The top is going to be strictly for things that I don't use very often, roasting pan and the like.

Another challenge I am facing is my canning jars.  I have a lot of them.  We have gone through most of our stash of food that I put up last summer/fall so I have an abundance of jars just hanging out.  Where do you store your jars?  What about your canning supplies?

My plan for the moment is to set up a set of plastic shelves in my basement and store my canning supplies and jars down there.  I think I will also store the food I can down there as well.  I think that most of our surplus supplies (bulk toilet paper, bulk paper towels, and any bulk food) will be stored down there as well.  As I type it all out it seems I might need another shelf to store it all!  LOL!

Anyways, as I am organizing, I am wondering if you all have any awesome organizing tips.  I would love to hear them!

  1. Alison, I will be checking back to see if anyone gives you some great tips. I have PLENTY of cupboard space but STILL, after living here for 8 years, do not feel my kitchen is organized. I have too many items I need to pull out only at certain times of the year, that take up too much space- like the big mixer, at Christmas, the lemonade pitcher and summer entertaining items for warmer days and picnics... I've been tempted to light a torch, throw it in and close the cupboard door. Sure, after I clean up the mess, I'd miss some items, but I'd have a LOT more space!:-)

  2. We have one deep corner cupboard like you describe. Right now I'm storing baby things in it...like bottles and sippies that the girls have grown out of, but I might need again someday, so don't want to get rid of. I also don't make pies very often and so keep my pie pans up there and maybe some small containers and vases that I only pull out for the occasional bouquet. I wonder, though, if that might be a good place for your canning supplies, since those are more of an annual use item and not something you'd need to grab everyday.
